SECTION 6-1-35. Preservation and protection of cemeteries.
|
(A) Counties and municipalities are authorized to preserve and protect any cemetery
located within its jurisdiction which the county or municipality determines has
been abandoned or is not being maintained and are further authorized to expend
public funds and use county or municipal inmate labor, in the manner authorized
by law, in connection with the cemetery.
(B) As used in this section, the term "preserve and protect" means to keep safe from
destruction, peril, or other adversity and may include the placement of signs, markers,
or other appropriate features so as to identify the site as a cemetery and so as to aid
in the preservation and protection of the abandoned cemetery.

Hello, My name is Bill Spurlock and I am the founder of the Saving Graves Project. Back in November of
2005 I stepped aside from the project and turned it over to Steve Stymiest. For those of you that may not
be aware, I'm sorry to report to you that in November of 2006 Steve passed away. Since that time the
future of the Saving Graves project has been in question with really no one knowing what was going on
and what, if any plans were in store for the future. I was contacted several months ago to see if I knew
anything and if I had a way to get in contact with those who would. Well, to make a long story short I'm
pleased that I have made arrangements to take Saving Graves back and should regain control of the domain
name and the current website shortly. Our plan for the website is to go in and clean up the main page as
soon as we have access and shortly after that you should see a totally new Saving Graves website. We will
still be working with volunteer National, State and County Coordinators and we still need you! It's my hope
and desire that those of you that have stuck it out during this time will want to continue with us as we
work to rebuild Saving Graves. If you are interested, please contact me by email at bill@spurlockfamily.org
and let me know what your level of interest is and how you would like to be involved in the project.
